Louvred roof or glass veranda: which should you choose?
A louvred roof and a veranda with a glass roof both give you a sheltered terrace. The big difference is in light, shade and ventilation.
Read moreAluminium and uPVC are the most popular materials for new windows. We compare the differences in appearance, insulation, maintenance, colour and price.
When you replace your windows, you usually choose between aluminium and uPVC. Both are low-maintenance and insulate well. Still, there are clear differences.
Aluminium is much stronger than uPVC. That means the profiles can be slimmer, even with large windows and heavy glass units. You get more glass and more light. uPVC profiles are wider and often have rounded corners.
Modern aluminium windows have a thermal break and insulate excellently with triple glazing. Good systems reach a Uw value below 1.0. uPVC insulates well by itself. In practice the difference with a good aluminium system is small.
Neither needs painting. Aluminium does not rust, does not warp and hardly discolours. That's why it lasts a very long time. Aluminium is also easy to recycle.
Aluminium is powder-coated and available in any RAL colour, including a different colour inside and outside. uPVC usually gets a foil finish, with a smaller choice.
Aluminium windows are usually more expensive to buy than uPVC. In return you get a longer lifespan, slimmer profiles and more design freedom.
Do you want slim profiles, lots of light, large windows or glazed fronts, or a sleek or even a steel look? Then aluminium is the logical choice. We are happy to advise you during the free measuring visit.
