Sliding door or lift-and-slide door?
With an ordinary sliding door the sash slides open straight away. With a lift-and-slide door you first lift the sash slightly with the handle. That makes it slide very easily, even if it weighs hundreds of kilos. When closing, the sash drops back into the seal, so it is draught-proof and watertight. For large openings most people choose a lift-and-slide door.
Panoramic sliding door
With a panoramic sliding door the frame is almost invisible and the interlock, where the sashes meet, is very narrow. On the Schüco ASS 77 PD it is only 37 mm. Mostly, you see glass.
Threshold
A sliding door can be fitted with a low threshold or completely level. That way you walk from inside to outside without a step, handy with children, a wheelchair or a robot vacuum.
Number of tracks and layout
A sliding door usually has two or three tracks. With two tracks, one sash slides past a fixed sash. With three tracks more sashes can open, so the opening gets bigger. Corner solutions are also possible.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a sliding door and a folding door?
With a sliding door, one or more large glass panels slide past each other, so part of the opening always stays closed. A folding door folds aside like an accordion, freeing almost the entire opening. A sliding door has larger glass panels and more view when closed.
What does the Uw value mean?
The Uw value indicates how much heat escapes through the whole window: frame and glass together, in W/m²K. The lower the number, the better the window insulates. A well-insulated aluminium window with triple glazing is below 1.0.
What does burglar-resistant RC2 mean?
RC2 is a class under the European standard EN 1627. A window or door with RC2 holds off a burglar with simple tools for at least 3 minutes, RC3 for at least 5 minutes. The longer it takes, the sooner a burglar gives up.
